A série começou com Rick e Steve se deparando com um problema – Kirsten, amiga lésbica de Rick, pede que ele a engravide, pois está tendo dificuldade para encontrar doadores de esperma. É o chute inicial para uma série de conflitos, já que Dana, esposa de Kirsten, e Steve são “inimigos imortais”. O fator politicamente incorreto também está presente, com piadas sobre Aids.
