Baseado no livro The Broken Tower: A Life of Hart Crane de Paul L. Mariani, o filme representa a imagem que se formou à volta de Hart Crane. Um retrato social ensombrado pelo álcool, pela instabilidade psicológica, pela (na época, dificilmente aceite) homossexualidade e pelo suicídio. A aventura cinematográfica é filmada com uma câmera de mão e está dividida em 12 capítulos ou “viagens”, que tentam absorver o espectador na ilustração da vida de Crane.
